“I love the look of bronzer and want to start using it, but I don’t know where to begin. Can you help?” – Megan, Edmonton, Alberta
Wearing bronzer is like going to the beach every morning: it’s like sunshine in a compact – without the harmful rays! When applied properly, a good bronzer will become your new best friend. It will instantly liven up your complexion, warm up your skin tone and give you a gorgeous, youthful, sun-kissed glow in seconds. And, who doesn’t want that? |

THE RIGHT SHADE DO Select a shade that resembles the colour of your skin when it has a natural tan. A good rule of thumb is to go no more than two shades darker than your complexion. This will give you a natural bronzed glow. DON'T Avoid very dark or orange shades; you don’t want to look like a burnt piece of fruit!
TO POWDER OR NOT TO POWDER Powder-based bronzers are super easy to apply and the easiest way to get sun-kissed. Use a matte bronzer or one with subtle shimmer for a natural, healthy glow. 1 Begin by swirling a large fluffy powder brush into the bronzer; tap it off on the back of your hand to remove the excess powder. 2 Focus on the areas where the sun most naturally hits your face. Apply with a light hand. Starting at your forehead, draw the number ‘3’ as you move the brush down to your temples, cheeks, jawline and chin; then, a light sweep down your nose. As shown in the sketch above. 3 Start with light layers and add more if needed to build up intensity; blend well. Remember to sweep a little on your neck and chest for a nice, even application.

LIQUID, CREAM or GEL Opt for a liquid, cream or gel-based bronzer for added moisture and a soft natural finish.
Powder-based bronzers are super easy to apply and the easiest 1 Apply with clean fingers or a short, dense foundation brush. In a circular motion, swirl the product on the same areas of your face as the powder bronzer application (on left): forehead, temples, cheeks, jawline and chin, with a light sweep down your nose. 2 Blend well with a sponge until the colour melts into the skin. 3 To build up the colour, add light layers, one at a time, until you achieve the desired shade. 4 If you tend to have an oily T-zone, set with a light dusting of translucent powder.
